Allergies and their Cures

Types of allergies

1) Skin allergy: The skin is the outer covering of the body and acts as a barrier to most allergens. But this barrier can be breached by an insect bite or sting. The allergen thus takes entry and a local allergic reaction is the result. The mast cells of the skin gets activated and skin lesions are formed. Children are prone to get a more prolonged reaction and develop eczema, a skin rash.
2) Allergen inhalation: Allergies may be caused by inhalation of certain allergens. They are mainly seasonal in nature and are caused by environmental allergens. For instance, certain tree and grass pollens may cause hay fever. In autumn months, allergies may be caused by weed pollen. These reactions may be irritating but they usually go away soon. They are called Allergic Rhinitis. There is another type of allergy which is caused by inhalation. It is called Allergic Asthma and it leads to bronchial constriction in seconds of inhalation of an allergen. After the initial phase, people start showing hyper-sensitivity to sulphur dioxide and cigarette smoke. This type of allergic reaction needs to be given special care.
3) Food allergy: People with food allergies may get two kinds of allergic reactions. Firstly, when the mucosal mast cells get activated, transepithelial fluid loss may occur which leads to diarrhea and vomiting. There is also a chance of developing urticaria. Secondly, intake of food allergens may lead to anaphylaxis, sometimes accompanied by severe asthmatic symptoms and cardiovascular collapse. There are certain foods that can trigger a life-threatening reaction, a common one being peanuts.
